Congratulations to Karsen Gonyea for breaking the long jump record at Alcona on April 26th at Tawas. The record was held by Tom McIntyre at 21' 3.75". Karsen jumped an impressive 21' 5". Great job!
Congratulations to Jeremiah Bullis for now holding the 200 M and 400 M records at Alcona. Both records have been held by Kirk Franklin since 1987. The 200M was 22.8 and now is 22.75. The 400M was 51.5 and now is 51.13. Jeremiah sure had an amazing night!
Congratulations to the Alcona boys track team for winning our 1st Northern Lights Invitational! The girls team did not win, but had a great night as well. Running under the lights was very fun! Nice job, everyone.
Check it out! There will be a virtual presentation for Alcona High School parents and community members! The Sunset Project (TSP), a nonprofit organization based in northeast Michigan, will facilitate “Ending the Silence” a mental health awareness program for Alcona High School students in health classes on May 15, 2024. Prior to these presentations, TSP will present the Ending the Silence program online to interested parents and community members. There are two ways to engage in this content, you can attend an event held at the Alcona Schools Auditorium, hosted by the Alcona chapter of Students Leading Students. Light refreshments will be served, and the first 25 people will receive a free t-shirt (sizes are limited). The presentation is on Monday, May 13th, doors open at 5:30 and the program in both formats will run from 6:00 until 7:00. “Ending the Silence” is an evidence-based program created by the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), designed to be facilitated in a classroom setting to educate youth about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems they face, such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.
The Sunset Project has partnered with NAMI Grand Traverse to facilitate this program for schools in Northeast Michigan. Two people, one adult and one youth presenter, share facts about mental health from NAMI. The presenters then share their own stories that summarize their mental health journey to normalize emotions and feelings students may face. Students in health classes will experience this program, which takes one class period.

North Point Nature Preserve Field Trip: High school environmental science students took their classroom outside this week! They learned about biodiversity talks, native vs. invasive species monitoring, water quality testing, and more! S'mores and sunshine were also on the agenda. Exciting things were happening at the middle/high school Block Party last week! The yearbook cover design winner was announced: Breslin Sargent, a 6th grade student composed their own song on the piano and performed it: Tanner MacNeill, the Knowledge Bowl and Robotics Teams were recognized for their outstanding seasons, the Environmental Science classes presented about their Earth Day Fast Fashion Lil' Store and gave prizes out for students that participated, and the Students Leading Students group presented. #alconaschools #house #blockparty
