MS/HS Spring Fun Day!
I know I sound like a broken record, but Alcona Track broke another record tonight at the NSL Big Dipper Championship. The 4x200 M Relay team of Sawyer Seminoff, Evan Woods, Karsen Gonyea, and Garrett Somers ran a time of 1:33.02. This record was a time of 1:33.11 held by Gavin Walker, Chris Barnes, Nick Rasmussen, and Jacob Sytek set in 2021. Way to go, boys!!

The Big Dipper Northstar League Championship was held at Alcona tonight. All teams did a great job on a beautiful night. The Alcona Boys Team came out with their 4th Conference Championship in a row! Way to go, Tigers!! The girl's team did very well also, but came up just a few points short of Rogers City.

Students went back to the Harrisville Harbor one last time for the school year to do some garden maintenance, native plant ID and tagging, ensured the stormwater drainage worked as intended, and got to pilot water quality testing as well. Next year's aquatic science class will inherit the garden and continue water quality monitoring efforts. These kids did so well, and the sunshine was an added bonus.

Yesterday, English in the Real World students put their philanthropic research into action by volunteering at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. As part of their final unit, students are learning how to use their writing, researching, and speaking skills to give back to their community. In addition to the ReStore, they helped at the Lincoln Food Bank and are creating social media posts for Inspiration Alcona.

Alcona Track did not disappoint again tonight! In competition at Gladwin's Legends Meet, two school records were broken. The 4x100 M team of Jeremiah Bullis, Brandon Fogle, Karsen Gonyea, and Garrett Somers ran an impressive 44.25 seconds. The record was 45.52 seconds set only a few weeks prior! Great job, fellas! The second record broken was the 200M dash set by Jeremiah Bullis on May 3rd with a 22.75 second run. Tonight, that record was set by Garrett Somers with a time of 22.64 seconds. Keep up the great work!
