Our GSRP teachers and preschool students are having a wonderful time celebrating Halloween a day early since there is no pre-school on Fridays. Today the classroom is filled with excitement, superheroes, princesses, bugs, witches, and more! It’s a special time for our youngest learners to make memories, share smiles, and celebrate together. We can't wait to see our big Alcona Tiger students in their costumes tomorrow! #alconaschools #tigerpride #preschool #halloween

We are excited for Alcona Elementary's trunk or treat this Friday, Oct. 31st! Students will be with their class to get treats after they finish lunch. For Friday, costumes need to be school appropriate and not bloody or scary, also, students should be able to independently navigate the building, like using the bathroom, getting supplies, etc. A great alternative would be a Halloween themed sweatshirt or clothing. If you signed up to be part of the trunk or treat, please stop in the office before setting up to check in. Thank you!

Alcona YAC (Youth Advisory Council) members attended the 2025 YAC Conference at Alpena Community Center on Friday. Along with Iosco, Presque Isle, and other northern Michigan YACs, our students learned more about community agreements, values/beliefs, and how to share stories about our YAC experiences. We are looking forward to our first grant cycle in November.

Alcona Elementary loves our families, and our first family night of the year was a huge success with over 100 in attendance! Thank you to all that attended! A shout out also to those who helped out with cooking, cleaning, reading stories, and helping with crafts. Keep your eyes open for future family engagement opportunities! 😊

If you’re near the District Office, take a moment to stop by our new historic display and enjoy a glimpse into Alcona’s past. The collection features a railroad spike from the tracks that once ran through the property, a School Directory from 1920-1921, and records of proceedings and minutes from school district meetings dating back to the 1920s. You’ll also find the Contingent Fund records of 1928, along with photographs of the old schoolhouse and a horse-drawn school bus. These artifacts offer a fascinating look at the early years of education in Alcona and serve as a reminder of the community’s strong roots and ongoing dedication to learning. We invite everyone to stop by and take a look at this piece of Alcona’s past. #alconaschools #tigerpride #history
