Elementary after school "Power Up" students have been exercising their brain power to accomplish challenges using a variety of materials.
Earlier this week the Knowledge Bowl Team participated in their forth match of the season at WBKB-TV Alpena. They won against the Rogers City Hurons 150-50. The team is currently 3-1. The last match of the regular season is vs. Hale on February 15. Team members are: Carter Upper-Captain (12th), Isabella Laird (11th), Lee Kozlow (11th), Emma Schroeder (10th), Brandon Stanley (9th), Leigha Belanger (9th), and Coach Ms. Helen-Ann Cordes. 🎓Drumroll please! Today we are kicking off our Early College application period! Did you know that ACS has an Early College (EC) Program? Today we will be kicking off our EC campaign with Ms. Cordes, our EC Coordinator. From now until April we will be highlighting our program, student accomplishments, college resources available to our students, and more! Today's feature is the introduction of Ms. Cordes, our EC Coordinator. Did you know that ACS has a partnership with Alpena Community College that allows our EC Coordinator to have an office at the ACC campus in Alpena? Every Wednesday Ms. Cordes can be found in her ACC office, room 110A in the Newport Center. Being on campus allows Ms. Cordes to better support and meet with our full-time college students. Sometimes former students even stop in to say hello and get help with transferring to a 4 year university, applying for ACC commencement, and transitioning into the workforce. Last week Ms. Luce's Anatomy & Physiology class put their skeletal system knowledge to the test by solving a murder mystery. They combined science and math by becoming forensic anthropologists for the day! Spoiler alert: Timmy, their skeleton, did not make it! #alconaschools

Our Garden club has been working hard to get our first round of seedlings ready for the hoop house! Students meticulously planted over 250 lettuce seedlings last week plus experimented with microgreens. Soon we will put the raised beds into the hoop house and be ready to plants more fresh food to enjoy in our lunches!
