A heartfelt thank you to @smileprograms, the mobile dental team, for visiting our middle and high school! This wonderful opportunity was made possible by Ms. Kim Carter, our middle/high school nurse. During the visit, 50 students received dental care, including exams, cleanings, x-rays, and simple restorative treatments. Of those, 37 students had no additional needs, 5 were referred for urgent dental care, 39 received fluoride treatments, 18 were given sealants, and 6 received restorative care (simple fillings), which represents an impressive 85% decrease in restorative needs since their first visit in May 2024. We're excited to announce that the mobile dental team will return on May 9, 12, and 13, 2025—mark your calendars! If any individuals, businesses, or organizations are interested in helping cover costs for uninsured students during the May 2025 visit, please reach out to Ms. Kim Carter, ACS Middle/High School Nurse, at 989-736-8534 or via email at carterk@alconaschools.net. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Alcona Middle and High School students recently enjoyed a live stage show production of Painless: The Opioid Musical- sponsored locally by Up North Prevention. The assembly from the University of Michigan Drama department and Michigan OPEN (Opioid Prevention Engagement Network) focused on the opioid epidemic and addressed how opioids, especially synthetics- like fentanyl, have caused more than 80,000 deaths among youth and adults in the US*. Alcona E-Sports Ends Season With a Smash! The Alcona Electric Tigers high school e-sports Super Smash team improved to 4-4 to end their regular season with a win over the Yale Junior Bulldogs 6-1. The dominant performance may allow the Electric Tigers to find a seed in the playoffs, but with a .500 record, their hopes for the post season are on the bubble. The team is Nikolai Williamson, Marcus Prater, and team captain, Eric Cann. The team had fun this season working together to build their skills, and are looking forward to playing in the winter season. The Alcona Middle School Kart Crashers are continuing to find success in their Mario Kart practice season with a scrimmage win over the Summerset Area Golden Eagles 2-0. The Kart Crashers are 2-4 during their practice season and are looking forward to competing in the first Play VS middle school season after the holiday break in January. Playing for the middle school team are: Charlie Woodbury, Aiden Schober, Chazz Barton, Damien Colosky, and Jayden Raley. If you are interested in competing at the high school or middle school level in Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, or Rocket League, please contact Mr. Thomas or Mr. Brunger at Alcona Schools.

Seniors considering going to college, tech school, or trade school: The FAFSA is the online form to fill out to see what federal and state aid a student qualifies for. You can do this form anywhere you have access to the internet. There will be a FAFSA night on Tuesday Dec 17th at 6p in the HS cafeteria to give access to the internet for those who need it. Both a parent and the student will need to create an FSA ID at least 3 days prior to filling out the FAFSA. It is your electronic signature. There is more information about Financial Aid and the FAFSA on the Alcona college and career page that will walk you through the process.

Did you know the month of October was farm to school month? Here at Alcona Community Schools we provide fresh ingredients for the students to try right from our school gardens! This year the elementary school has grown 563 pounds of fresh produce for the students; from tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans to summer and winter squash. All of the produce is grown, harvested, and consumed by our elementary students. The produce is used during lunch for tastings and cooked into their meals. #alconaschools #foodcorps
