Make a difference in your community and join Michigan Education Corps as an AmeriCorps Reading or Math Interventionist. Alcona Elementary School is looking for reading and math interventionists to
give their time and talent to help our kids become successful learners.
Interventionists serve students one-on-one or in pairs during school hours throughout the school year.
No matter if you’re a recent grad, career changer, stay-at-home parent or retiree, you can make a great interventionist. No experience? No problem. Michigan Education Corps provides comprehensive training in scripted interventions proven to help students learn, so interventionists are well equipped to help students grow.
Perks as an interventionist:
● Receive a stipend every two weeks
● Earn up to $4,441.50 for college tuition or federal student loans. Interventionists 55 and older
may gift the award to their child, grandchild, stepchild or foster child.
● Free child care assistance for those who qualify
● Federal student loan forbearance
● Free health insurance for full time members
● Earn a credential

Alcona 8th Graders buried time capsules today. They plan to dig them back up in spring of 2025 when they are graduating.
The district wanted to apologize for the early call yesterday with a reminder about the last day of school. It was scheduled to go out later in the PM, not AM. A setting was accidentally not adjusted. Thank you for your understanding. Again, not intentional.

Our 3rd grade elementary engineers completed their erosion restoration project last week. Through this place based stewardship project students read informational text about soil types and structure, studied soil types, built dam wall models, measured area and developed a solution to the erosion that occurred to our holding pond and nature trail. They worked so hard to complete this project for their community! Thanks to MISTEM, Werner Sand and Gravel and the NEMIGLSI network for their project support.
Here is the Grab N Go Menu for the week of 6/7/21 to be distributed to our remote families!
