🎓ACS Early College Campaign: Today’s spotlight for our Early College campaign is all about the trades! One of the common misconceptions students have about continuing education is that trade school and college are different. This is not true! Alpena Community College has many trade related certificates and associates available to students, including: Welding, Utility Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Concrete Technology, Automotive Service & Repair, and more! Mrs. Cordes and Mrs. VK toured ACC’s programs to get a better understanding on how to promote trade related programs to our students. Early College Applications are due Thursday, March 24 at 3pm. All 10th grade students are eligible to apply. Complete your EC application at: bit.ly/364g6Vt #TigerPride #EarlyCollege

As Michigan students return to school for a new year, access to affordable and reliable internet access is vital for their success. The Michigan Department of Education recently shared information about the emergency broadband benefit (EBB) program; which allows eligible households to enroll in an EBB discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 towards the purchase price. Congratulations to our very own, Liz Thomson, for being featured for her role in the Michigan Sea Grant Great Lakes Literacy Mentor Program. Ms. Thomson serves as our middle school science educator where her passion for water studies is evident with the hands-on and feet-wet projects she engages our students in. Middle school students explore water quality, track invasive species, study marine debris, engineer underwater ROVs, and more. Through the program Ms. Thomson is being mentored by a veteran educator at Thunder Bay Junior High School, who also happens to be her father. Through their mentor-mentee team it offers Ms. Thompson a great framework for enhancing our science program. Congratulations, Ms. Thomson! For more information on the Great Lakes Literacy Mentor Program and Ms. Thomson’s science program check out the article from Michigan State University Extension and Michigan Sea Grant at: https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/center-for-great-lakes-literacy-mentor-program-brings-together-a-dynamic-duo-msg22-schroeder22
